Friday Faves

This has been the longest week, for real. I think that’s the case for most weeks leading up to a holiday weekend, but throw in teething twins…ugh. Thankfully I’ve had lots of help from my mom, mother in law, sister in law and of course Charlie. Needless to say I’m so looking forward to a long weekend! We’re staying close to home since the girls have been sleep training….the saddest thing in the world but totally necessary when you have two. We’ve taken steps forward so we don’t want to back track by changing it up and traveling this weekend.

A few of my favorite things lately…

1. These beauties are always my favorite and they are 5 months old today! Man does time fly! It’s supposed to be nice this weekend (yay!) so we’ll most likely be breaking out the baby pool again, which was the most adorable thing ever last weekend.

They haven’t been in a pool or any other body of water other than their bathtub so it was fun to watch. June was pretty skeptical of the water while Faith was all about it and splashing. I swear these girls are switching personalities on us!

2. A friend of mine has a furniture company, Iron Oak, and makes everything locally in Richmond, VA. I recently visited the showroom and shop where everything is made and this stuff is amazing- really well made, one of a kind pieces. They also can make anything custom in just a few weeks.

3. I loved reading this blog post on how to handle twins in public ALONE. This is a constant struggle in my life and the girls aren’t even mobile yet. Poor Faithy Rae doesn’t handle crowds and new environments well. We actually have a new phrase “pulling a Faith” when you’re in an awkward/uncomfortable situation and you just want to scream at the top of your lungs and bolt out the door, because that’s what Faith would do. She just wants to be at home alone with her family, bless her heart! She actually enjoyed this outing so I had to document it!

4. I love when I come across a new furniture source and this one came from a client. (I know, two furniture sources in one post, but when it’s good I have to share!) Joybird is another custom furniture store where you can pick your fabrics, finishes and SIZE! Pick your depth, width and height of your sofa!  Brilliant! I’ve yet to order anything from them yet but when I do I’ll let you know! If you’ve had experience with them I’d love to hear about it!

5. Great tips on introducing color into a room on Apartment Therapy.

6. This is too funny- find out what your name would be if you were born today. I would be Brynn, and if I was born in 1900 I would be Bernadette, which ironically my parents joke about wanting to name me.

Have a great weekend!!

Friday Faves

Happy Mothers Day to all you moms out there! I have a much bigger appreciation for moms, and especially my own mom, after becoming one myself. We’re planning on spending the weekend with our family, and it looks like we’ll have nice weather for it so I’m excited!

Also, the Richmond Moms of Multiples is hosting their bi-annual yard sale this weekend and you better believe I’ll be there! I’ve had it on my calendar for months and have been making a list of everything the girls need to bring with me!

A few of my favorites lately…

1. This little girls’ room is so adorable. I love Kirsten’s style and creativity in her designs.

2. Did you know that you can make any curtains black out curtains with no sewing involved? Maybe I’m late to this party but these liners exist and are about to find a home in the girls’ nursery.

The twins went from great nappers to not so great lately. We put bamboo shades up in their room which makes the room pretty dark, but not dark dark like we apparently need (rookie mom mistake). I put so much effort into choosing fabric for our curtains, and my mom put a lot of love into making them, I didn’t want to just take them down and use different black out curtains. Insert black out liners. We are hanging them behind our existing curtains on a separate (lower) rod so we can pull them shut during nap time (pictures coming soon). You could also get a double rod and hang them behind your curtains or hook them to the back of them. Brilliant, y’all.

3. Speaking of sleep, this book has been my go to for our twin babes. I actually ended up with two copies so I gave the other to my expecting sis-in-law (who’s having one baby but still the same concepts apply).

There’s also a non-twin version, Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. I’ve seen tons of sleep books out there but this one has been spot on for us with the girls so far. It goes into the science of sleep and how it develops at different ages which is super helpful on figuring out what’s best for your babies. There are sleep-training methods in here, which we haven’t had to do (yet), but I mainly use it to know what to expect as far as sleep development and to see if we’re on track. Do you have a favorite baby sleep book? I’d love to hear what worked best for you!

4. Such a sweet farm house tour. So classic and cozy!

5.  This is so cool- using identical twins to study how space traveling affects the body.

Happy weekend!

Friday Faves

Holy growth spurt…that’s how I’d describe our week. That day in the life I posted earlier this week? This week has looked nothing like that. Our schedule during the day has basically been: they eat (for at least an hour most feedings), I eat, we all take a nap. Repeat 156481516543 times.

They did, however, start sleeping from 7:30/8pm to 6/6:30am without waking to feed! Miracles do happen people! You know that feeling when you wake up on your first day of a week long vacation? So well rested, so cheery, so many opportunities and events to look forward to ahead. That’s how we felt when we woke up the first time they did it. It was the best Monday morning ever.

Here are a few of my favorite things this week:

1. Like many of you, I’m sure, I’ve passed time watching endless amounts of HGTV. I got stuck on this site reading about all the details behind the scenes on some of the shows. One of my absolute faves:

They make me want to move to Texas and buy a junker house for them to beautify and then we’ll be life long best friends. Me and JoJo can decorate houses together and Charlie and Chip can play on the farm, and our kids will be BFFs…. too far?

2. A wireless charging station from Ikea? So cool…

3. The girls have grown out of their swaddles, which were enormous the first time we put them on (story of parenthood right?). I went to Babies R Us recently to get the next size up and got into a conversation with an expecting mom of twins on blankets, swaddles, etc. I highly recommended Halo Sleepsack Swaddles.

Faithy looks so worried when she sleeps!

When they first came home from the hospital we swaddled them in a blanket, which didn’t last long, they started busting out of them quick. I also wasn’t capable of doing it tight enough, Charlie was the swaddler of the family. We then moved to Summer Infant Swaddles and learned that they were starting to want their legs stretched out, so we’ve used the Halo swaddles since. They’re getting to the point where we need to start transitioning them out of swaddling and these are great because you can swaddle with arms in or out.

4. Oh I love the Nester. She’s all about decorating for real life and I love this recent post on TVs. They’re here to stay, I think it’s best we learn how to decorate around them!

I need to take her advice. Our TV situation is a mess that I’ve put off knowing baby proofing is in our near future.

5. The best dad in the world:

And some adorable baby giggles.

6. Speaking of babies, I’m going to be an aunt!! My brother and sister-in-law are expecting a baby in November! The girls’ first cousin, and they’ll be less than a year apart in age! I can’t wait!

They’re gonna be amazing parents!

Have a great weekend!
