What is Edesign?

I often receive questions about my Edesign service, what it is, how it works and who it’s for. So today I’m going into a little more detail about this service and hopefully answer some questions you may have!

What is it?

Edesign is a new approach to interior designing. It makes hiring a professional interior designer an affordable option, not an expensive luxury.

Traditionally, interior designers physically visited a home, asked questions to understand lifestyle and decor preferences, took measurements, snapped photos and then came back to the clients home with a proposed design weeks later. Once the plan is approved (immediately or after revisions) the designer then would work with the client to install the design in their home. The designer hires contractors and painters if necessary, purchases and arranges furniture and accessories, etc. This is still done by most interior designers but the process takes time and can sometimes be expensive (think: travel time, contractors, movers, staff to install, etc).

Edesign is more of a DIY approach and accomplishes the design portion of the process electronically. Instead of the designer visiting your home to ask questions and gather information, the client fills out an online questionnaire, takes measurements, and sends photos to the designer. The designer then takes all of the client’s information and comes up with a custom design for them. The proposed design is sent to the client electronically and it is up to the client to purchase the items and arrange the room according to the proposed plan. They can either follow the plan exactly, or use it as a guideline to shop on their own.


Who is it for?

The great thing about Edesign is that it’s completely flexible to fit your needs. Generally, Edesign is for someone who appreciates beautiful decor but doesn’t have the time or desire to go out and search for the perfect pieces to put a room together. It can be for someone who has a room that they are stumped on how to decorate, lay out furniture, or just need a new set of professional eyes for ideas.

I also often receive clients who just don’t know where to start, whether they need all new furniture, or they want to keep their existing furniture, and want a new look by adding or changing accessories.

What if I don’t live in Virginia?

No problem! Edesign is done via email, so as long as you’re in the United States, physical distance isn’t an issue. All items for purchase are available online or at national stores.

What if I just need a few new items, like a sofa or a rug?

Edesign is a perfect solution! You probably wouldn’t hire someone to come to your home to help find just one piece of furniture for your room, but it’s great to have a professional opinion and access to designer resources. With Edesign, you can send in your photos, measurements, and answer a few questions online. I’ll then do the shopping for you and send you a few options with purchasing information.

What if I need help with just my furniture layout?

I can do that too! Send me a few photos, measurements of your room and furniture you’d like included in the design. I’ll then send you a few layouts to choose from, with notes and instructions.

What if I don’t like some of the items in the design plan?

Designing your home is very personal. My goal is to get as much information as possible from you from the beginning to interpret your style and preferences, and then design a room that fits you. If there are ideas or items in the plan that you don’t care for, no problem. I include 1 round of revisions with all of my designs.

How does the pricing work?

Interior design is in no way a one size fits all service. Every home is different, every taste is different, and every need is different. I typically charge a flat fee which is determined by the room (s) and design needs. Once we agree upon the work to be done and the price, I’ll get to work on the design plan. Aside from an included revision, if anything is added down the road, I charge an hourly fee that will be communicated prior.

  1. i love the option of e-design. i’m not at the point to need it just year… give me a few more months for our home to be completed and this is something i will definitely be looking into… i have a vision, but i have a hard time with execution. 😉
