One Word

This weekend, my husband and I discussed what our individual “word for 2014” would be. I determined my word is CONTENT. I started with the word “patient” knowing that I always need to work on being more patient. But as I began to dig a little deeper, I realized that what I really need to do, instead of being patient for what I want, I need to be CONTENT with what I have, and patience will come naturally.

This article, the true cost of stuff, really puts things into perspective. I’ve definitely fallen into this trap, especially in furnishing our home. I have an ideal view of what our home could look like and in order to achieve it, I immediately think it requires buying more “stuff”. Yes it’s important to us to have a nice home, we spend a lot of time in it, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s all just “stuff”. My goal this year is to be CONTENT with what I have, in all areas of my life, and if I don’t need it, get rid of it.

What are your goals this year? Have you come up with a one word mantra for 2014?
