Hi everyone, I’m Kelley…yes I have an extra “e”, but I still answer to Kelly. I find that the people who spell my name correctly also have names spelled differently from the norm, (extra letters, “y” instead of “i”, you know who you are, I feel for you!) I appreciate it more than you’ll know when my name is spelled right. It’s the little joys in life…
I started this blog for many reasons, probably similar to many home design bloggers, but I have my own reasons too. Here are a few of them:
I love decorating.
I have a lot to talk about (just ask my poor soon to be husband- he just lets me ramble and sweetly actually listens). Per my “about” page, I grew up in the flooring and construction industry. My parents started their business when I was a baby and I currently work in the business.

I remember tagging along with my parents from model home to model home, when I was young, “oooohh-ing” and “aww-ing” at the massive homes these builders created and the designers made beautiful. I used to dream of living in them myself and mentally took notes on how I’d decorate the home if it were mine. I frequently moved furniture around in my own room growing up, decorated to a T each short term apartment I lived in throughout my 20’s (and there were many…I have a very loyal brother who moved me up and down the east coast numerous of times). I find myself daydreaming about room layouts and relax after work by reading home decor magazines. I pay more attention to the set house, when watching movies, than the characters. I think it’s safe to say, I have a passion for decorating.
When I finally bought my own home, I was disappointed when I was “done” decorating it. Over the past 10 years, once I was “done” I was moving to a new apartment anyway so I had a new decorating challenge waiting for me! Luckily, this home will now become “our” home to me and my new husband and we’ll get to decorate it to fit OUR personalities, not just mine. So now we get to start over, (kinda sort of- money doesn’t grow on trees so we’ll re-purpose a lot). I’ll bring you up to speed on the work I’ve already done on the house and some lessons learned in future posts.
Here’s the house, isn’t it cute??
I want to keep current.
When it comes to decorating and home design, trends come and go as fast as you can say “chevron”. I think it’s important to decorate with a look that’s timeless and not going to make you cringe next season when the style is gone. But I also want to keep myself updated on trends and adopt them into my designs in small doses. This blog forces me to keep my eyes and ears out for new and practical ideas, especially cost effective ones!
I love helping people.
I don’t consider myself an expert in design. I like to think I have a talent, however I’m learning just as everyone is. In my day to day, I do come across so many people who just have no idea about decorating. How do I know? They say, “Kelley, I have no idea how to decorate”. When they tell me this, I honestly have 57489507230 ideas that cross my mind so this is a way I can share those ideas, a little at a time, and help people in their own homes.
One of the first clients I worked with I helped select a countertop and backsplash combination. She has been back several times for ideas in other areas in her home.
I’ve learned so much working and growing up in this business that I never would have learned reading a magazine or watching a TV show, especially when it comes to construction projects. Sharing these experiences with others can save so much time and money, and that’s exactly what I’d like to do.
I need a sounding board.
I think it’s clear that I’m obsessed with decorating. My family and friends? Not so much. They’re actually really sick and tired of hearing me talk about it all the time. They would never tell me that, but I can take a hint when their eyes glaze over, start looking over my shoulder and they just nod their head every once in a while.
I think many people who work in this field work with other decorators to bounce ideas off, but I haven’t been so fortunate. I came to work for my family’s business because no one in the company knows or cares about color theory and they certainly don’t get excited about matching paint colors with tiles for a bathroom. Maybe down the road I’ll be able to expand and work with others who have this interest, but for now, it’s just me. I hope to connect with others in the blog world who is just as excited as I am that I found a great deal on the perfect side table or to ask if they think a paint color is too grey.
My last point (thanks for sticking around- I warned you I have a lot to talk about) but by far the most important. My absolute number one is Jesus. He has blessed me more than I can ever begin to explain. I love sharing the joy He gives me each day. He created us to have a community to share the good and bad times. I know I’ve been encouraged by others and how the Lord has blessed them. If I can be an encouragement to someone else, and share His love, my day is made.
